Kindergarten (K5)
Overview
Kindergarten at Oasis Christian Academy provides an engaging, Christ-centered learning environment where students build the academic, spiritual, physical, and social foundations needed for a successful transition into elementary school.
Our K5 classrooms combine direct instruction, hands-on learning, small-group activities, independent practice, and meaningful interaction with teachers and classmates. Students are encouraged to become curious learners, develop increasing independence, build positive relationships, and discover the joy of learning.
Biblical truth is intentionally woven throughout the K5 experience as we seek to help students understand God's Word, explore His creation, and begin developing a Biblical worldview.

Bible
OCA utilizes Bob Jones University (BJU) Bible curriculum in Kindergarten. Through age-appropriate Bible instruction, students learn about God's creation, His love for them, the life of Jesus Christ, and significant people and events throughout the Old and New Testaments.
Students are encouraged to understand and apply Biblical principles such as obedience, kindness, honesty, forgiveness, responsibility, and love for God and others. Scripture memory, prayer, and Biblical integration throughout the school day reinforce these truths.

Phonics & Reading
K5 students develop foundational literacy skills through instruction aligned with the Science of Reading. Students build phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension through explicit, systematic instruction.
Songs, poems, read-alouds, guided practice, small-group instruction, literacy centers, and independent practice give students multiple opportunities to build confidence and proficiency as beginning readers.

Mathematics
Kindergarten mathematics combines direct instruction with hands-on activities, manipulatives, guided practice, math centers, and individual support.
Students develop number sense and foundational mathematical thinking while learning concepts such as counting, number recognition, addition and subtraction, patterns, measurement, shapes, comparisons, and early place value.

Language Arts & Writing
Language arts instruction helps Kindergarten students develop the foundational skills necessary to communicate effectively through speaking and writing.
Students work on handwriting, letter formation, sentence development, capitalization, punctuation, listening skills, oral communication, and exposure to a variety of age-appropriate literary genres. As their phonics knowledge develops, students are encouraged to apply those skills to their own writing.

Science
Science encourages students to explore God's creation through observation, questioning, investigation, and hands-on learning.
Students explore age-appropriate concepts related to plants and animals, life cycles, matter, weather and seasons, Earth and space, the five senses, and other areas of the natural world.

Social Studies
Social studies helps students begin understanding their place within their families, school, community, country, and world.
Students explore families and communities, community helpers and leaders, holidays and traditions, geography, maps, citizenship, and different cultures while developing an understanding of how people live and work together.
