August: A Fresh Start

"Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established." — Proverbs 16:3

One of the things I love about working in a school is that every August feels like a fresh start.

Students get a clean slate. Teachers get a fresh group of students. Parents settle into new routines. Everyone gets a chance to begin again.

We spend a lot of time preparing for the new school year. We buy supplies, organize classrooms, attend orientation meetings, and fill up our calendars. Those things matter, but before we do any of that, this verse reminds us to commit our work to the Lord.

The truth is, none of us knows exactly what this year will bring. There will be great days and difficult days. There will be successes worth celebrating and challenges we'll have to work through together.

That's life.

The good news is that God already knows what's ahead. Our job isn't to have everything figured out. Our job is to trust Him and be faithful to what's right in front of us.

Our theme this year is “Be a L.I.O.N.” Throughout the year, we'll focus on loving God, loving others, inspiring integrity, owning our faith, and nurturing growth. My prayer is that these aren't just things we talk about, but things we actually live out loud.
